The Stanford prison experiment was a famous psychological study conducted in 1971 at Stanford University with college students taking on the roles of prisoners and prison guards within a mock prison setting. The experiment was canceled before it was even half way finished due to the staggering results that arose very quickly amongst the participants, with many prisoners having suffered severe emotional trauma due to the sadistic treatment by the guards.
