Karen Silkwood was a labor activist who worked at the Kerr-McGee nuclear power plant. Her mysterious death in a one-car traffic accident came just after she decided to publicize her findings of alleged misconduct and violations by the plant. Previously, she had been found to be contaminated with a dangerously high amount of plutonium that may have been planted in her house. On the night of her death, she was driving to meet a journalist from the New York Times and had with her a stack of documents which she had collected to provide evidence of the plant’s inadequacies. The documents were not found in her car, and some have claimed that the car showed evidence of having been rammed from behind.
