Capgras delusion is a form of psychosis and a delusional disorder where the sufferer believes that a person close to him, such as a family member, has been replaced by an impostor. The delusion is not uncommon in patients suffering from schizophrenia, but has also been observed in cases of traumatic brain injury. It has been suggested that the behavior may result from an inability for the brain to connect the conscious recognition of a face to an emotional response and memory of the face.
