Operation Mincemeat

Operation Mincemeat was a deception project undertaken by the British in World War II to fool the Germans into anticipating an invasion in an area other than the true target. The operation used a corpse — disguised as a high ranking British officer and carrying sensitive documents — deliberately planted to appear as the victim of a plane crash at sea. The Germans fell for the deception completely and reallocated their defensive forces, resulting in the Allies facing much less resistance upon an invasion of Sicily.
