The Stateville Penitentiary Malaria Study was a voluntary human experimentation study conducted by researchers to test anti-malarial drugs. Inmates at the Stateville Penitentiary in Illinois were the test subjects and received ten bites from a mosquito infected with a strain of malaria. The United States Army partially organized the study, as malaria was proving very detrimental to military efforts during World War II, and new drugs needed to be tested.
