On March 2, 1962, Wilt Chamberlain set an NBA record by scoring 100 points in a regulation game between his Philadelphia Warriors and the New York Knicks. The Knicks were unable to defend against Chamberlain, and Philadelphia’s coach instructed his team to continue to feed the ball to Chamberlain, who was regularly triple and quadruple teamed. In fact, the Knicks at times used all five players to try to stop Chamberlain. Towards the end of the fourth quarter, the Knicks — who were trailing — began to intentionally foul any player other than Chamberlain. In response, the Warriors intentionally committed fouls so as to get the ball back and to give Chamberlain more scoring opportunities. The 100th point was scored with under one minute to play. Chamberlain set five other records in the game, and four continue to stand to this day.
