June 1962 Alcatraz escape

On June 11, 1962, three men escaped from Alcatraz prison in San Francisco, taking a makeshift raft into the waters of San Francisco Bay and disappearing. Along with a fourth man who was unable to participate because he could not get out of his cell in time, the escapees created cut through the walls of their cell and used dummy heads to deceive prison guards. The rafts were made from rubber raincoats, and most experts believe that the men drowned before reaching the shore. The escape was investigated on the television show MythBusters and was determined to be plausible. The case is still being investigated by the U.S. Marshals Service.
