The Surgeon’s Photograph is a photograph of what was purported to be the Loch Ness Monster. The photo was published in the Daily Mail in April of 1934 and was given its name because the source, a doctor, refused to be identified by name. It is perhaps the most recognizable photograph associated with the creature, although it was revealed to be a hoax in 1994. It is believed that the hoax was designed to embarrass the Daily Mail, although it is questionable as to why this was the intention when the hoax was only revealed sixty years later.
