George Metesky (“The Mad Bomber”) planted at least 33 pipe bombs in New York City between 1940 and 1956 due to his resentment of his former employer, ConEd. The first bomb was very crude and was located before it went off. Because it was surrounded in a note, it was thought that it may have been an intentional dud, since the note would have been destroyed had the bomb gone off.
